We docked in Nassau on a Sunday for a very short stay. Nothing much was open and there wasn't time to do much exploring. A friend of mine from work was currently on vacation there but after making enquiries we found he was too far away to make a visit possible.

It was a foreign country but we still found a familiar landmark and, of course, there was the inevitable horse drawn carriage.

El Morro is the largest fortification in the Caribbean. It was built by the Spaniards between 1540 and 1783 to honor King Phillip II. Located on a rocky point on San Juan Bay, the fortress rises 180 feet above the sea and features 18-foot thick walls. Inside are a web of corridors, dungeons, ramps and vaults.
We took pity on Scott and released him before we left to tour the old part of San Juan.
The streets were very narrow with all the old facades preserved even though interiors may have changed completely.
On going through the stores in town we noticed that the rum flowed liberally here.
We had seen the Bacardi plant on the way into town.
On street corners and outside of store fronts stands were set up handing out free drinks.
I suppose it was to soften up the tourists to make them buy more but it didn't work with us because my wife doesn't like rum and I am allergic to it.
Suddenly Scott had a paper cup in his hand and he said one of the men had given it to him. I tasted it to make sure it was only a soft drink and found pure rum.
I guess the drinking age is much lower in San Juan.
Our favourite place to visit in the Caribbean was definitely St. Thomas.
From the time we stepped off the ship we were enchanted with it.
The white sand beaches with clear blue water attracted many of the tourists but there was much more to see and experience.
A short climb from the harbour was Bluebeards Castle.
This pirate was notorious in his day and controlled much of the high seas from this island.

In town the shops were full of great bargains, so I'm told, and on the streets there was entertainment for those of us who hate shopping.

Megan's Bay looked like the perfect pirates lagoon although it was on the opposite side of the island to Bluebeard's castle.
The sands were white and kept pristine clean at all times.
