Wrestling your curved text into submission in PSP 7

In PSP 8 adding curved text was changed making it easier but with a little know how it is possible to get the results you want in PSP 7.

Adding curved text to follow a vector line is relatively easy but when the vector is a closed shape it can cause problems.

First I will give you the easy part.

Curving text

  • Draw a vector line
Click on the pencil tool and set up as shown
Click the start of the line and drag a little way.
Then click where the line will end and drag.
The handles of the nodes can be used to get the curve you want.
  • Add Text

  • Add a new layer for the text. "Layers" - "New Raster Layer"
    Click on the text tool
then hold the cursor over the line you have drawn until the cursor changes to a letter A
Add your text in the normal way
That was pretty easy and the line can be any shape you like as long as it is a vector.
The line itself is on a separate layer so you can make it invisible or delete the layer.

Now we will add text to a vector shape ( The ellipse )

  • Draw an ellipse
  • Click on the "Preset shapes" tool and choose the "Ellipse" shape from the drop down list.
Make sure "create as Vector" is checked.
Place the cursor somewhere at the top left.
And pull down to the right to create the shape.
  • Add Text

  • Add a new layer for the text. "Layers" - "New Raster Layer"
    Click on the text tool,
Then hold cursor over the shape until it changes to a letter A
Make sure you have the text centered
That wasn't too difficult was it?

Before we go on to the more difficult part try making your text left or right justified instead of centered.
You will see that it moves to the left or right side of the shape
Next : Moving the text to the inside of the shape.
